The Society of Operations Engineers (Hong Kong Region)
It is my privilege to be elected as the Chairman of The Society of Operations Engineers - Hong Kong Region (SOEHKR) for the years 2020 to 2022. I am sharing the tremendous enthusiasm that our Council Board Members, Executive Committee Members and our team of various disciplines members have, for the continuous growth of SOEHKR in the coming years ahead.
It is certainly hard to contemplate a more challenging year for us all. 2020 has been dominated with the COVID-19 pandemic and an economic downturn, with no signs of tailing-off. I hope 2021 and beyond will offer us more opportunities with the rolling out of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Our activities during these past few months have been significantly impacted. However, our passionate committees have been able to quickly respond to the external influences, overcoming difficulties and adopting a new norm. We have continued to deliver the majority of our planned activities under strict compliance of all the recommended precautionary measures and health guidelines. We have embraced online delivery, utilising new technologies and digital platforms. As such, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each and every member for their valuable contribution; from our speakers, facilitators, volunteers, committee members and delegates, to our leadership team who drafted up the control procedures; arranged webinars and on-line CPD courses. The operations and delivery of SOEHKR activities would have surely been unfeasible. An extraordinary team effort that will never be forgotten.
More challenging times lie ahead of us, with an economic recovery forecasted to be no earlier than the second half of 2021. Notwithstanding, I would still encourage all our members to further equip ourselves with higher standards of engineering professionalism during these challenging times and position ourselves to seize any opportunities upon eventual recovery. Bear in mind that our career is not only restricted within Hong Kong, and there are plenty of planned developments happening in the EAST where our expertise will be highly valuable. I am confident your contribution will form the pillars of our engineering industry.
Our committees are dedicated to stay relevant and be of service to our members as we navigate into the New Year, as precautionary measures permits. Please visit our website to find out what suits you most.
Thank you for all of your supports during 2020. I do hope that you get some time away from your work during the festive season. May you get together with family and friends (which for many has not been easily achievable this year), celebrate the good things, and be rested and ready to go again in 2021.
Last but not least, let’s work together to fight the virus. Keep vigilant! My best regards to you and your families for safe and happy holidays.
